# What is MFA?

MFA stands for **Multi-Factor Authentication**. It adds an extra layer of security by requiring an additional verification step beyond your password.

During the Set Your Vector registration process, you can use one of two verification methods:

- **SMS** – Receive a verification code by text message. This option is currently available **only for phone numbers registered in the United States or Canada**.
- **TOTP (Time-Based One-Time Password)** – Use an authenticator app, such as Google Authenticator, to generate a verification code.

If your phone number is registered outside the US or Canada, **do not enter a phone number during registration**. Use TOTP instead.

If you have already added an ineligible phone number to your account, the quickest resolution is to **create a new account**, leave the phone number blank, and use TOTP.
